FULL MEMBERSHIP
Open to any qualified professional writer, employee or freelance, who seeks admission and who satisfies the requirements for full membership. Full membership is designed for professional writers who have a writing credit.
A Full member must satisfy the following credit requirements :
(i) Film - as a dramatist, documentary or narrative writer who has created not less than a total of a broadcast hour of material which has been produced by a recognised production company or authority;
(ii) Television - as a dramatist, documentary or narrative writer who has created not less than a total of a broadcast hour of material which has been produced by a recognised production company or authority;
(iii) New Media - as a dramatist, documentary or narrative writer who has created a body of material that, in the opinion of the Board, is of sufficient quality and duration to entitle him or her to Full membership;
(iv) Theatre - as a dramatist for theatre who has had a play or other scripts of not less than fifty minutes duration produced for public performance;
(v) Sketch Writer - As an author of sketches and routines of a total of no less than thirty minutes duration produced by professional performers, broadcasters or managements;
(vi) Radio - as a dramatist, documentary or narrative writer who has created a total of not less than a broadcast hour of material which has been produced by a recognised production company or authority;
(vii) Comics - as a writer who has created a body of material that, in the opinion of the Board, is of sufficient quality and duration to entitle him or her to Full membership;
(vii) Games - as a writer who has made a significant contribution to the narrative of a game which has been produced by a recognised production company or authority;
(vi) Script Editing - As a script editor who has script edited a feature film or three broadcast hours of material for broadcasting;
(vii) Any person who, in the opinion of the Board, is of a professional standing entitling him or her to Full membership.
ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP
Available to aspiring writers or those who wish to maintain contact with or an interest in the NZWG.
Associates must become Full Members on gaining the appropriate credit. Associate members are eligible for all NZWG discounts but are not eligible to vote or to free membership of AWGACS (Australian Writers Guild Authorship Collecting Society) or to a listing on the NZWG Find a Writer website pages.
STUDENT/INSTITUTIONAL MEMBERSHIP
Students attending recognised NZ tertiary under-graduate or post-graduate scriptwriting courses may qualify for free student membership through their training institutions. Please check with your course tutors.
